Transfer Stories
Welcome to the English department! Contact Dr.%20Elizabeth%20O%27Connor to get more information about the English program and the transfer process. We will work with you to select classes and enroll before you have matriculated.
If you are transferring in as a junior (or with an Associate's Degree, or plan to graduate in four semesters or less), you will need to take Junior Seminar, which is only offered in the fall semester. This course allows students to work with peers in their graduating cohort.
Although the Registrar will make the final determination for which courses fulfill specific requirements, Dr. O'Connor can discuss your transcript with you. The general education checklist for WAC can be found here.
It will be useful to reference the checklists for the English major (or English major with a track in Secondary Education) or the minors in Creative Writing and Journalism, Editing, and Publishing. These checklists will help you keep track of your progress in the program.
Students transferring with an Associate's Degree will likely have completed many of the WAC distribution requirements and likely some or all of the lower level/intro level English courses required for the major.
Students transferring from Cecil College can refer to this pathway.
Many course equivalences for individual courses can be found in the Artsys system, which shows how courses from community colleges in Maryland count at WAC.
We are here to help every step of the way!
