Organized by the Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience
The Last Island by Starr Center Director Adam Goodheart
Please join the Starr Center and the Bookplate bookstore, at the newly opened Sultana
Harwood Nature Center in the Lawrence Preserve, for a conversation between writer
Fernanda Moore and Starr Center Director Adam Goodheart, where they will discuss his
new book The Last Island: Discovery, Defiance, and the Most Elusive Tribe on Earth.
The indigenous hunter-gatherers of North Sentinel Island, in the Bay of Bengal, have lived in virtual isolation from the rest of the world for centuries. In The Last Island Goodheart speaks on the known history of these people and their rare interactions with the outside world, his own voyage to the coast of the island as a young man, and the 2018 killing of an American missionary trying to make contact.
