Washington College U.S. News & World Report Ranking as One of the Nation's Best Liberal Arts Colleges Jumps 11 Spots

College continues to earn high marks in nation's most trusted higher education reports

Washington College has been ranked 85th among national liberal arts colleges in the 2022-23 Best Colleges Report released by U.S. News & World Report. Previously ranked 96, the College’s position in these annual rankings improved by 11 spots in one year.

Within the overall rankings, Washington was 47 in faculty resources and 69 in overall financial resources. U.S. News & World Report calculates its ranking based on six categories which are each weighted differently: student outcomes, faculty resources, expert opinion, financial resources, student excellence and alumni giving. In total, U.S. News collected data on more than 1,850 institutions.

Washington College also comes in at 95 on the Best Value Schools list and 106 as one of the Top Performers in Social Mobility. Best Value Schools are those that are above average academically and cost considerably less than many other schools when financial aid awards are taken into account. The colleges listed as Top Performers in Social Mobility are those that are most successful at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students who typically receive federal support through Pell Grants.

Washington College was also named once again to The Princeton Review’s Best Colleges List for 2023, marking the 16th time the institution has been highlighted as one of the nation’s best for undergraduate students. In recognition of Washington’s strong faculty, the College was ranked 17 in the category “Professor Get High Marks,” finishing ahead of schools Like Bryn Mawr and Claremont McKenna colleges and the University of Richmond.
