Heather Harvey is a cross-disciplinary artist whose work straddles traditional boundaries of painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation-based strategies. Her projects grow out of a range of interests – most often the sciences (astronomy, physics, biology, geology), philosophy, poetry, spiritual practices and metaphysics, psychoanalytical perspectives, ethics-based social justice issues, the natural world, and concerns about environmental ecosystems and their collapse.

Harvey’s work is currently in Transformer DC’s Flat File program and was recently in ICA Baltimore’s Flat File program. She is a member of Revolve:R, edition four, a multidisciplinary collaboration of visual artists, poets, filmmakers, sound artists, and musicians from around the world. She is also a 2021 recipient of the Maryland State Arts Council $10K Independent Artist Award, the MSAC Individual Artists Award in 2014 and 2017, and a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Professional Artist Fellowship. She has had residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and the Virginia Center for Creative Arts.

Some recent solo exhibitions include the Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD, the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts in Wilmington, Delaware, Salisbury University Gallery, MD, Maryland Art Place in Baltimore, and Second Street in Charlottesville, Virginia. She has also exhibited at The Painting Center, NYC, the Anderson Gallery in Richmond, VA, Denise Bibro in New York City, the McLean Project for the Arts in McLean, VA, Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, Page Bond Gallery, Richmond, VA, Hunt Gallery in Staunton, VA, McKinney Avenue Contemporary in Dallas, TX, the William King Museum in Abingdon, VA, PLAYsPACE in San Francisco, CA, and the Claremont Graduate University Gallery in Los Angeles, CA.

Her essay “Outliers, Fringes, Speculation, and Complicity: On making and teaching complex, contradictory art” appeared in Creative Collaboration in Art Practice, Research, and Pedagogy, published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing (2018). Harvey’s writing has been published in Art Papers, Sculpture Magazine, and NYArts
