Electric Vehicles

Bringing an electric vehicle to campus? With multiple level 2 charging stations at convenient locations — all charged by solar power — your next destination is always carbon-neutral.

The College recently upgraded three EV charging stations behind Bunting Hall and one at the Tennis Center. These new stations from ChargePoint provide better charging performance and will be available to Washington College community members as well as the public for a fee charged through the ChargePoint mobile app. The Washington community will pay a discounted fee of $.20/kilowatt hour. This nominal fee covers the cost of the electricity and the maintenance of the equipment for the College. The public will be charged a fee of $.40/kilowatt hour and will help generate additional revenue for the College. The new fees will go into effect on February 14 and the charging stations will remain free until then. Other existing campus charging stations will be decommissioned at the same time.

Drivers must register their vehicle with ChargePoint using the ChargePoint mobile app. Use of the charging stations and payments are done through the ChargePoint app, which is available for Apple and Google devices. The app allows you to check charging station availability and make reservations. It also provides notifications about when your charge is complete.

Please note that users of the charging stations will be responsible for moving their cars within 60 minutes of the charge being complete. Vehicles that are not moved will be assessed an additional fee of $3/hour and be subject to parking citations.

There are 4 J1772 chargers behind Bunting Hall as well as 3 J1772 chargers next to Schottland Tennis Center.

    Why EV?

Many people are choosing electric vehicles over ICE vehicles to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, save money on fuel and maintenance costs, improve air quality, and lower greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.
