"I attribute much of the success I have had in my professional career to my experiences at Washington College. The premed program helped prepare me for the application and interview process, but also in planning the best time frame for applying. I took a year off prior to enrolling in medical school and this was the best advice I received - having that break was the right fit for me and made me more equipped to tackle my first year (thank you Dr. Verville!). In addition, I gained the motivation and confidence I needed to be where I am today largely from Washington College and I will be forever grateful to all of my mentors who helped me get here."

"Having professors and a premed committee who actually knew me - really knew me - made a huge difference in my feeling prepared to apply to medical school and knowing my letters of recommendation would be personalized and reflect my accomplishments. The ability to get involved in research early on and take advanced classes that were small and interactive definitely contributed to my success in getting into medical school on my first try."

"The premedical program at Washington College not only gave me the confidence and necessary preparation required to be successful in applying and completing medical school; my mentors also encouraged me to explore other interests. The liberal arts philosophy of education has made me a well-rounded and logical thinker, which has translated into being a better physician resident. For example, I continue to use the writing skills I learned at Washington College on a daily basis and often reflect on lessons learned in philosophy class."

"The application process for medical school can be very overwhelming, but the premedical committee at Washington College helped me along every step of the way. From editing my personal statement to hosting mock interviews, the committee helped shape me into a strong candidate for medical school. Above all, I remember feeling that I always had someone in my corner, which gave me the confidence to keep pushing whenever I began to doubt myself. I am grateful for their guidance because it helped lead me to where I am today."

"I have many fond memories of Washington College, most of them on Kibler Field. The balance required to manage a pre-med curriculum and compete at the collegiate level in men's lacrosse certainly built the foundation that prepared me most for medical and post-graduate training. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to do both, and of course to my coaches, teachers, and teammates who supported my development while at Washington College."

"For me the strong support system and advisors were the key. I’m the first person in my family to become a physician and having the right people in my journey was truly paramount to my success. I remain forever grateful to Dr. Marteel, Dr K (Krochmal), Dr Verville and many others. They were there for me even after I graduated and completed a masters program. This is when most people give up in their medical school application process and in reflecting about my journey, I think this was one of the most important moments in my life."

"I credit the majority of my professional successes as an implant surgeon to my education at Washington College. There were no doctors in my family growing up so the organization and expertise from the Pre-Health Professions Program was invaluable. They helped set me up for my doctoral education from what classes to take at WAC, to preparing for my entrance exams, to writing an attractive personal statement, to application deadlines, to rehearsal interviews, to even celebrating with me once I was accepted to my first choice graduate school. I am truly forever grateful."

"Washington College and the premedical committee were critical in preparing me to apply to and succeed in dental school. As a Chemistry major, I learned to cope with a heavy course load as well as build a healthy foundation and appreciation for evidence-based practice (which remains especially important for me today in clinical decision making). The premed committee provided an opportunity to review and revise my personal goals and dental school prospects on a yearly basis. Thanks to all for the support!"
