Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology introduces students to the vast fields within psychology, including clinical/counseling and behavioral neuroscience. We provide hands-on experience for students to conduct research using a wide range of cutting-edge laboratory equipment, and to get real-world experience interning in a psychologically based placement. Students build lasting relationships with professors, who serve as mentors throughout your time at Washington College. Our faculty are experts in their field, offering a range of courses on behavior, life-span development, psychiatric disorders, personality, human sexuality, mindfulness, processes of counseling, and more. Practical experience, independent research, and developing written and oral communication skills are foundational elements of the department.

The department offers a major in psychology—with optional concentrations in clinical/counseling or behavioral neuroscience—and a minor in psychology. It also contributes to the neuroscience major.
