Programing

The Student Government Association creates and oversees a variety of programming for the campus community, working to unite students from all organizations.

Casey Time

Each year, Washington College students devote a day to campus beautification in appreciation of Eugene B. Casey and Betty Casey ’47 for their generous support of our institution. This year, students focused their efforts on the Armory, a historic building recently acquired by the College.

First-Year Orientation Service Project

The Student Government Association partnered with Student Affairs to plan the first ever Orientation Explore Service Day Project! The event was extremely successful with the first-year students with mini service projects within the town of Chestertown.

iServe

Each year, Washington College students devote a day to the beautification of Chestertown.

For this year’s Fall iServe, and being the 4th Annual iServe event, the Secretary of Service and Community Relations wanted to change up what the project would be and volunteered at Heron's Point, our local retirement community.

This project had a great turn out of 61 students of all school years and different organizations, including fraternity and sorority life, service organizations, SGA and SEB members, and many others. Students were split between 11 groups, with one being assigned to each Cul de Sac on their campus. The main objective of the iServe event was to clean the road area and center garden, however, many groups did much more. Students had the joy of helping out specific houses gardens as many residents came out of their houses and asked for help. Some of those projects include shearing shrubs, weeding gardens, help move boxes, and even had one case of cutting someone’s grass.

EC4EC- Plan B Initiative

The Student Government Association's Secretary of Service & Community Relations has partnered with the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Club and Health Services in the Fall of 2024. This ongoing initative is supported by the Emergency Contraception for Every Campus (EC4EC) program that helps students across college campuses navigate the process of providing emergency contraception to students and the community for free

This initative was approved for Peer-to-Peer distribution, meaning that appointed student leaders on campus are able to stock and/or handout Plan B. Plan B can currently be found in George's Kitchen, the SGA Office, various bathrooms on campus, and soon to be more!

However, we still urge students to contact Health Services to make an appointment. While this peer-to-peer distribution system provides Plan B, students who would prefer a more effective form of emergency contraception, like Ella, due to Plan B's lower effifacy at weights over 165 lbs, should also make an appointment with Health Services to obtain this prescription.

For more information, please reach out to Carson taylor (ctaylor5FREEwashcoll), Caroline Drupka (cdrupka2FREEwashcoll), and Lisa Marx (lmarx2FREEwashcoll). Or call Health Services at 410-778-7261.
