Areas of Expertise
Ethics of care
Research
My research is focused on the continued development and defense of the Ethics of Care understood as a formulation of agent-based Virtue Ethics. Introduced and developed by my mentor at the University of Maryland, Michael Slote, I defended the theory in my dissertation thesis by demonstrating the theory’s ability to be effectively applied and lend substantive insight into issues surrounding the physician-patient relationship. I am currently expanding beyond the field of medicine to explore the insights the Virtue Ethic of Care can offer on the subject of punitive justice and issues in the political profession.

Areas of Expertise
Freedom, feminism, political theory, critical race theory, and post-colonial thought
Research
What does it mean to be free? I ask this question at the intersection of feminism, political theory, critical race theory, and post-colonial thought. Framed in this way, freedom must be understood as a practice of working with others, including the others within, in order to invent alternative forms of action that defy socially enforced scripts of domination and subordination. This basic idea gives rise to hosts of other philosophical questions that continue to drive my teaching, research, and ways of living.
